Running a small business can be a bit of a nightmare. Follow these top tips to stay productive.
Here at RKStyles we don’t just offer excellent quality workwear; we are also a small business. We know first-hand how tough it can be to have a productive day, when you are trying to run your own business. It’s a hard job. If you’re not passionate about what you do, it gets even harder.
Today, we want to discuss how you can remain productive, even if your small business is a one person show. It’s not easy, no, but if you have the drive, determination, and desire to succeed, your small business can be a success.
Inhibitors to Production
What stops us being productive? Why is it that small business owners have productivity problems? Let’s answer this before we go any farther.
When you are the only person working for your company, everything falls to you. That means you do all the emails, all the work, all the networking, all of the communicating, and all of the stock taking. It is you who tracks down supplies, deals with missing items, and calls the supplier to let them know how angry you are.
When you own your own business and there are no other staff members, you need to somehow take care of all the above and find time to produce goods and services. When there is nobody else to help you, this can mean you are still answering emails at 10pm. Obviously, there is added pressure. If you can’t produce goods or services, that means more emails, more complaints, and the cycle starts again.
Sound familiar? If you are the one-stop-shop for your own small business, then listen up. Here are some top tips for increasing your daily productivity to make sure that the bills get paid and the emails get answered.
Top Tips for Better Small Business Productivity
If your small business has been suffering because there is only one of you, follow this advice.
Routine is Key
The first thing you need to know is that the routine you have is the key to efficiently managing your time. If you don’t manage your time properly, you will start to encounter problems with not reaching things in time. When you don’t get to things in a day, they roll over onto the next day but still need done.
If you’re not careful, sleeping in twice a week could be enough to give you a Friday backlog that sees you working through Saturday mornings.
Schedule your Time
Next, portioning up your available time can keep you ahead and give you the edge. If I spend two hours on answering messages in the morning, then start the real work at 10/10.39 am, I free up the rest of the day for getting goods and services produced. This production feeds money into the company and keeps the cogs turning.
Prioritise
Even if you have a couple of employees, it can still be hard to get things together every day. Prioritising the tasks that are most urgent will help you get through your workload[i]. Similarly, if you can use your prioritising skills for appropriate situations, you can provide workplace motivation in your small business.
For example, many savvy employers prioritised rewarding work at the onset of Covid-19.
Uniformity is the Key to Success
Let’s not miss out uniformity. If you are running a small business, it is vital that everything looks and acts the same way, every time a consumer comes to your store[ii]. Say you sell coffee. If they get a bad coffee one day, a burnt one the next, and a good one every third day, they aren’t going to keep coming back.
The same can be said about the uniform. Dressing smartly inspires consumer confidence and even brand loyalty. That’s something to think about before you consider going to work in your slacks just because you can.
And Don’t Forget…
If you need workwear for your small business, there’s only one place good enough to keep up with you. Find everything you need in the RK Styles online store, the workwear store that works as hard as you do.
